Secure Remote Edge
Secure remote access without any usage tax
Every time you onboard a new staff member, you shouldn't have to write yet another check to your vendors. Cisco, Citrix, Microsoft, and on and on go the seat costs. These and other legacy vendors treat your own perimeter and infrastructure as their own toll road. Your arbitrary monthly tax to them just grows constantly.
Instead, we build remote edge systems that puts you back in control of your infrastructure. By pairing High Availability OPNsense systems with clientless Guacamole HTML5 gateways and full Linux virtual desktops, your workforce gains instant high security access to the work they need to do. Even if they need legacy Windows apps.
All on fully Sovereign Canadian infrastructure, if you want it.

A true perimeter doesn't just block threats; it empowers your workforce without charging a toll
The Sovereign Access Stack
Three independent technologies tied together into a single remote access engine
OPNsense: High-Availability Edge Defense
Instead of closed-hardware systems like Cisco, Fortinet, or even Palo Alto, we deploy OPNsense on common x86 server hardware, even if you need High Availability. This enables affordable and rapid component replacement, expansion, and loads more flexibility for implementations. Couple that with a huge feature list including multi-WAN bonding, stateful failover capabilities, multiple VPN technologies including WireGuard and OpenVPN, plus VLAN isolation and management, and you get Enterprise grade capabilities while spending way less compared to the closed-hardware vendors.
Apache Guacamole: Clientless Web Gateway
VPN clients on staff computers don't always make sense, and in those scenarios we're a fan of Apache Guacamole. Turning your favourite browser into a secure HTML5 web portal. Staff login with the same user account system you already have, can use 2FA if desired, and immediately access their desktops and servers over industry leading protocols including RDP, SSH, & VNC. High quality user experience and high quality security, what's not to love?.
Linux VDI & Hybrid App Streaming
Instead of throwing money away at Windows Desktop or Server access licenses just so staff can reach internal tools, we roll out scalable Linux virtual desktops. And if you still rely on legacy stubborn Windows-only tools, we implement a dedicated Windows App Server to stream them directly to your Linux VDI systems. But really the majority of applications staff use already work on Linux one way or another. And when you're ready to shed that legacy Windows-only software, we're ready to help you transition to open source alternatives, like ERPNext.
Sovereign Infrastructure Needs Sovereign Custody
Spinning up a firewall, routing subnets, and standing up remote access gateways is only half the battle. Once your perimeter and remote edge are live, they still need someone to keep the engine tuned.
Networks grow. VLANs get messy. DHCP scopes shift, routing tables need maintenance, and remote access environments like Guacamole and Linux VDI demand regular updates to keep workflows smooth. It is real work, and it usually falls on the wrong shoulders.
You built your sovereign edge to keep your data out of foreign hands and escape corporate software traps. But keeping it healthy shouldn't mean your internal team gets bogged down in routine network maintenance and capacity planning.
We take over the day-to-day operational custody of your remote edge. No per-user taxes. No headcount penalties. Just steady, predictable engineering support from people who actually know how to run the stack.
What Our Managed Remote Edge Support Entails
-
Network Architecture & Lifecycle: Ongoing management of your OPNsense routing, VLAN segmentation, DHCP scopes, and firewall rule hygiene as your organization scales.
-
Encrypted Tunnel Operations: Steady oversight of WireGuard and OpenVPN roadwarrior connections and site-to-site links, ensuring your distributed team's transit paths remain stable and reliable.
-
VDI & Streaming Pipeline Maintenance: Keeping your Apache Guacamole portals, Linux virtual desktops, and hybrid app streaming environments healthy, updated, and responsive.
-
Capacity Planning & Health Monitoring: Proactive resource tracking, performance tuning, and infrastructure alerting so you avoid bottlenecks before they bite.
-
Predictable Flat-Rate Pricing: Monthly support contracts scaled strictly to your hardware footprint. You keep your perimeter freedom, and we provide the operational backing.
The Proprietary Trap vs. The Sovereign Edge
We see two paths for your remote access infrastructure. Stay in the trap, renting from legacy vendors who own your perimeter, and punish you for growing. Free yourself, own it all outright and keep it all Canadian Sovereign. How do they stack up?
| Metric | The Legacy Trap (Cisco, Citrix, Microsoft) | The Sovereign Edge (LANified! IT Services) |
| Licensing & Costs | Extortionate. Per-user VPN seat licenses, RDS CALs, and punishing annual subscription renewals. | Zero Per-User Taxes. Open-source foundations mean you don't pay a penalty for hiring more staff. |
| Hardware Agility | Locked down. Proprietary network appliances with massive lead times and expensive RMA contracts. | Standardized x86. Deployed on affordable, common enterprise hardware for rapid replacement and limitless scaling. |
| End-User Access | Friction-heavy. Requires installing, configuring, and constantly updating bloated VPN clients on remote laptops. | Frictionless HTML5. Total access to desktops and legacy apps directly through any standard web browser. |
| Data Sovereignty | Compromised. Telemetry data shipped to the US, tethered to public clouds, vulnerable to foreign jurisdictions. | Absolute Control. 100% on-premises. Your data stays in Canada, strictly governed by PIPEDA and your own policies. |
Straight Answers to Hard Questions (FAQ)
But we have a legacy Windows-only ERP system. Can we still use Linux VDI?
Yup! You don't need a big pool of Windows Desktop licenses for one legacy program. We would deploy a single Windows App Server to stream that legacy app into your Linux VDI ecosystem, transparent to your users. All while keeping the benefits of server-side access controls, central configuration, plus other nice & tidy IT administrative stuff. The user experience is actually quite great!
Is browser-based access actually secure without a VPN client?
Oh very much so, yes! We make sure to implement the highest industry practices for security including NGINX reverse-proxies, encryption and cipher tuning, SSL/TLS Certificate automation, integration with authentication systems (including two-factor/2FA), and more! The internal systems behind Guacamole are never exposed directly to the internet, Guacamole acts as a secure bastion which follows industry leading security practices. This is how we use it ourselves and have been doing so for about a decade! Not only that, if a user logs in from a dirty compromised home computer, the malware cannot break through the Guacamole session to touch the systems behind it. It's high security from all angles!
What happens if the primary routing hardware fails?
Well that is what High Availability is for. Where it makes sense we implement two of the same standard x86 systems running OPNsense and configure them to work in-tandem for this and other undesirable scenarios. Should the primary system fail for whatever reason, the other one takes over immediately keeping all traffic (including stateful) flowing as if nothing happened. Not only that, since we use common x86 server hardware, repairing or replacing the "troubled" node happens rapidly, without having to wait forever for closed-hardware to eventually arrive.
Does this setup help us with Canadian data compliance (PIPEDA)?
It sure does! Assuming all of this is on your own premises in Canada, then everything runs strictly on your own hardware with no secret phone-home stuff like telemetry data or other snooping. Nothing the USA government has legal authority over. Audits and demonstrations of PIPEDA compliance are a breeze, as you hold all the cryptographic keys to your kingdom and maintain total, absolute control.
Is it going to be a nightmare to train our staff to use this?
Chances are your staff already know how to use a web browser and go to a website, which is literally how easy it is to use. If your staff can reach the internet and chew gum at the same time, you're set. They login with the same credentials you've already trained them on using, and use the applications they already know. Point, click, type, go.
